“Resolution -Armored Cruiser Asama 2565-”
【画集第2弾 好評発売中!】
菅野泰紀鉛筆艦船画集The Asama was an armored cruiser built by Armstrong Whitworth in England.
After her voyage to Japan, she was expected to be a mainstay of the Imperial
Japanese Navy along with her sister ship Tokiwa. While she was active in
various battles, she was often honored to be the flagship of the Emperor
Meiji as he sat aboard her at Naval Reviews. During the Russo-Japanese
War, she was often temporarily attached to other squadrons and served in
a variety of combat waters. On the day of the decisive battle against the
Baltic Fleet, Asama formed a raiding party with the First Destroyer Squadron.
At this time, Asama had one important mission. After receiving a signal
from the flagship Mikasa, she was to attack the Baltic Fleet, disrupt its
formation, and concentrate the enemy's fire on her, creating an opportunity
for the First Destroyer Squadron to launch a successful decisive attack
using linked mines. However, in reality, the waves were too high and the
surprise operation was cancelled. Asama returned to the Second Fleet and
engaged in a fierce gun battle with the Baltic Fleet.
This drawing depicts the heroic scene of the Asama as she left the battle
line of the Second Fleet and increased speed to take the lead as a decisive
assault force on the day of the Battle of Tsushima. The ship in the background
is the flagship of the Second Fleet, the Izumo, with Vice Admiral Hikonojo
Kamimura on board.
