　「あさぎり」（JS Asagiri, DD-151）は、あさぎり型護衛艦の1番艦です。帝国海軍の春雨型駆逐艦「朝霧」、吹雪型駆逐艦「朝霧」に続いて、日本の艦艇としては3代目です。はつゆき型護衛艦に次いで誕生した型で、海上自衛隊汎用護衛艦の基本性能を底上げする存在となりました。はつゆき型より耐久性を向上させるため、上部構造の鋼製化が図られ、全長は7ｍ、排水量も550～600トン増加しました。また、出力の向上の一方で水中放射雑音の低減への工夫もなされ、情報処理能力もはつゆき型の運用経験を踏まえて、レベルアップした艦となりました。
　作品は、海中に潜む敵の潜水艦に対し、今まさに「あさぎり」がアスロックを発射した瞬間を描いたものです。アスロック発射機の後方から噴き出したブラストが、高く上がった艦首波をぶち抜いています。あさぎり型護衛艦は、艦体に比較してアンバランスと思える大きさのヘリ格納庫と、2本のマストを備えた特徴的な姿をしており、とても好きな艦型です。タイトルの「Glorious Mist」は、同艦のニックネームです。

JS Asagiri (DD-151) is the first of the Asagiri class destroyers. Following the Imperial Japanese Navy's Harusame class destroyer "Asagiri" and the Fubuki class destroyer "Asagiri", she is the third generation of Japanese naval vessels. The Asagiri class was built after the Hatsuyuki class destroyers, and it has raised the basic performance level of general-purpose destroyers of the Maritime Self-Defense Force. In order to improve durability, the superstructure was made of steel, the overall length was increased by 7 meters, and the discharge capacity was increased by 550 to 600 tons. While the engine power was improved, innovations were also made to reduce underwater radiated noise, and the ship's information processing capability was also upgraded based on the operational experience of the Hatsuyuki class.
This work depicts the moment the Asagiri fired an ASROC missile at an enemy submarine lurking in the sea at this very moment. The blast erupting from the rear of the ASROC launcher is blasting through the raised bow wave. The Asagiri class destroyer is my favorite ship type because of its distinctive appearance, with a helicopter hangar that seems unbalanced in size compared to the ship's body and two masts. The title "Glorious Mist" is the nickname of the ship.
