　「はたかぜ」（JS Hatakaze, DDG-171）は、はたかぜ型護衛艦の1番艦。帝国海軍神風型駆逐艦「旗風」、あさかぜ型護衛艦「はたかぜ」から数えて3代目です。
　作品は、艦首のランチャーからスタンダードミサイルを放つ勇壮な「はたかぜ」を描いたものです。まさに実戦の光景で、艦橋上に装備するイルミネーターの角度が異なるように意識して描いており、これは2基それぞれが異なる目標を追尾している様子です。更に、放たれたスタンダードミサイルが白い実弾という点にも、ご注目下さい。「Fighting Kite」は、同艦のニックネームです。



JS Hatakaze (DDG-171) is the first of the Hatakaze class destroyers, and the third in the line of the Imperial Japanese Navy’s first generation "Hatakaze" (Kamikaze class destroyer) and the Maritime Self-Defense Force’s first generation "Hatakaze" (Asakaze class Destroyer).
This work depicts the heroic Hatakaze releasing a standard missile from a launcher on her bow. This is a scene from a real battle. The angle of the target illuminators on her bridge is depicted as different, which represents the two units tracking different targets. Additionally, please note that the missile fired is white (real missiles, not simulated missiles). "Fighting Kite" is her nickname.
