“Phoenix of Flame, Fly Forever -Guided Missile Destroyer JS Shimakaze-”

　「しまかぜ」（JS Shimakaze, DDG-172）は、はたかぜ型護衛艦の2番艦で、帝国海軍峯風型駆逐艦「島風」、2代目の島風型駆逐艦「島風」から数えて3代目にあたる艦です。ミサイル護衛艦として、長きにわたり日本周辺の防衛に目を光らせてきました。
　作品は、観艦式で祝砲を放った瞬間を描いたものです。前後の発射タイミングをぴったり合わせるのは難しいらしく、絵のシーンは、まさに大成功の瞬間です。艦のニックネーム「Fire Bird」にちなみ、背景の雲の形に飛翔する火の鳥が浮かび上がっています。



JS Shimakaze (DDG-172) is the second ship of the Hatakaze class destroyer, and the third in the line of the Imperial Japanese Navy's first generation "Shimakaze" (Minekaze class destroyer) and second generation "Shimakaze" (Shimakaze class destroyer). As a missile destroyer, she has long kept a watchful eye on the defenses around Japan.
This work depicts the moment when the celebratory cannons were released at the Naval Review. It is difficult to perfectly match the firing timing of the fore and aft guns, and this scene is a moment of great success. In honor of the ship's nickname "Fire Bird", a flying fire bird is floating in the shape of clouds in the background.
