“Like a Spear Through the Waves -High-Speed Transport Ship Kitakami 2604-”

　作品は、「北上」がマラッカ海峡で被雷した際に、乗り組んでおられた方のご遺族からご依頼を受けて、昭和19年1月27日の同艦を描いたものです。背景にある艦は、任務に随伴する「鬼怒」です。戦時中の特にこの時期の「北上」の資料は皆無で、様々な文献に記載された特徴をまとめて描きました。マストに翻る信号旗は「ＪＬＧＡ」で、「北上」の艦名符字です。

This work depicts the Kitakami on January 27, 1944, at the request of the family of a crew member who was on board when she was torpedoed in the Strait of Malacca. The ship in the background is Kinu accompanying the mission. There are almost no photographic materials available on Kitakami during the war, especially during this period, so I drew this work while summarizing the features described in various documents. The signal flag flown on the mast is "JLGA," meaning the name of the ship Kitakami.
