　作品は、初代聯合艦隊旗艦を務める「松島」を描いたもので、後続するのは二等巡洋艦「千代田」・「厳島」・「橋立」、艦首側背景に航走するのは、二等巡洋艦「吉野」です。本作品の複製画が、松島爆沈110周年となる平成30年9月24日に行われた、戦後初の日本人と現地有志による慰霊行事に合わせて、団長の辻井正房氏により龍山寺と風櫃溫王殿へ奉納されました。制作に際して様々な資料を紐解く中で注目したのは、凝った意匠の艦首装飾です。そこに取り付けられた菊の御紋章が、一般的な16弁ではなく、花弁先端が鋭角な12弁であった事には、特に興味をそそられました。

The work depicts the Matsushima as the first flagship of the Combined Fleet, followed by the protected cruisers Chiyoda, Itsukushima, and Hashidate, and the protected cruiser Yoshino sailing in the bow-side background. Two reproductions of this work were dedicated to Longshan Temple and Fenggui Wenwang Temple by Mr. Masafusa Tsujii, the leader of the group, in conjunction with the first postwar memorial service by Japanese and local volunteers held on September 24, 2008, the 110th anniversary of the sinking of Matsushima. In unraveling the various materials for the drawing, I focused on Matsushima's elaborately designed bow decoration. I was particularly intrigued by the fact that the chrysanthemum crest attached to it had 12 petals with sharply angled petal tips, rather than the more common 16 petals.
