「対潜哨戒機 P-1」
“Maritime Patrol Aircraft Kawasaki P-1” P-1は、機体、エンジン、システムの全てを新規開発した純国産機です。更新時期が迫った対潜哨戒機P-3Cの後継機として計画・開発され、平成25年3月に最初の2機が厚木航空基地に配備された事を皮切りに、部隊配備が開始されました。我が国の広大な周辺海域の長時間の哨戒任務を遂行するために、P-3Cを上回る速度、航続距離、搭載量が最新技術の適用により実現されています。P-1は優れた哨戒能力を持つ一方で、その搭載量にも目を見張るものがあります。機体外部のハードポイント（兵装類を吊り下げ搭載する部分）8か所と、更に胴体部の爆弾倉には、各種爆弾の他、短魚雷やレーダー誘導型空対艦ミサイルAGM-84「ハープーン」等を搭載できます。武器搭載量だけを見れば、P-1はF-2の2機分以上の攻撃力を有しており、そのため「大量の空対艦ミサイルを持っているかもしれないP-1の存在」は、平時においては敵国にとって抑止力となり得ると言えるでしょう。
作品は、海中に潜む敵潜水艦に対し、対潜爆弾を投下するP-1を描いたものです。幸いにも、P-1の製造に携われた方とお会いする機会に恵まれたので、制作に際して監修して頂きました。特に開放された爆弾倉の部分の描写には、かなりこだわっています。
The P-1 is a purely domestic aircraft, with the airframe, engine, and systems
all newly developed. It was planned and developed as the successor to the
P-3C anti-submarine patrol aircraft, which was due for renewal, and unit
deployment began in March 2013 with the first two aircraft being deployed
at the Atsugi Air Base. The P-1 is designed to carry out long patrol missions
in the vast surrounding waters of our country, and its speed, range, and
payload exceed those of the P-3C, thanks to the application of the latest
technology. While P-1 has excellent patrol capabilities, it also has a
remarkable amount of onboard capacity. Eight hardpoints on the exterior
of the aircraft and a bomb bay in the body can carry various types of bombs,
as well as short torpedoes and the AGM-84 “Harpoon” radar-guided air-to-ship
missile. In terms of weapons capacity alone, the P-1 has an offensive capability
equivalent to more than two F-2s, and thus the “presence of P-1s, which
may have a large number of air-to-ship missiles”, can be a deterrent to
an adversary in peacetime.
This work depicts a P-1 dropping anti-submarine bombs on an enemy submarine
hiding underwater. Fortunately, I had the opportunity to meet the person
who was involved in the production of the P-1, and he supervised the drawing
of this work. I was quite particular about the depiction of the opened
bomb bay area of the P-1.
