“Wings in the South -Aircraft Carrier Taiho 2604-”作品は「大鳳」の最初で最後の戦いとなった「あ号作戦」時の攻撃隊発艦準備の場面をイメージしたものです。きわめて短命に終わった「大鳳」の勇姿を描くべく、長期にわたり構想を重ねました。画面上でまさに発艦しようとする攻撃隊は出撃後に壊滅し、「大鳳」並びに僚艦「翔鶴」も潜水艦からの雷撃により戦没したのは周知の通りです。背景に航行するのは「瑞鶴」と秋月型駆逐艦と陽炎型駆逐艦です。

菅野泰紀鉛筆艦船画集This work shows her in her first and last battle, the Battle of the Philippine Sea preparing to launch planes at the enemy. Because of her short life, I wanted to portray her courageously. As is well known, the attack force about to launch on the screen was destroyed after launching, and the Taiho and her companion ship Shohaku were also sunk by torpedo attack from a submarine. In the background, the aircraft carrier Zuikaku, an Akizuki class and a Kagero class destroyer can be seen.
