　「メリーランド」は、アメリカ海軍のコロラド級戦艦の2番艦。16インチ連装砲塔４基を搭載した本級は、帝国海軍の長門型、イギリス海軍のネルソン級と共に、海軍休日期における世界で最有力な戦艦の1隻と評されました。日米開戦の発端となった真珠湾攻撃時に小破し、その修理も兼ねて近代化改装がなされました。戦線復帰後にアメリカ軍の本格的反攻が始まると、主に上陸作戦における地上部隊支援任務に従事しました。
　作品は、タグボートに押され、真珠湾の係留ポイントに着きつつある「メリーランド」を描いたもの。艦上では作業員が綱取り作業をしており、その上空をPBY-5がフライパスしています。

The Maryland was the second of the U.S. Navy's Colorado class battleships, and with four 16-inch turrets, was regarded as one of the most powerful battleships in the world during the Naval Holiday, along with the Imperial Japanese Navy's Nagato class and the Royal Navy's Nelson class. It was slightly damaged during the attack on Pearl Harbor, which triggered the outbreak of the war between the U.S. and Japan and was modernized and refurbished as well as repaired. After returning to the front lines, when the U.S. Armed Forces launched a full-scale counter-offensive, she was mainly engaged in supporting ground troops in landing operations.
This work depicts the Maryland being pushed by tugboats and arriving at her mooring point at Pearl Harbor. Aboard the ship, the crew is working on the mooring, and a PBY-5 is flying overhead.
